Answer : (i) Einstein has derived Light Energy Mass inter-conversion
equation ,
L=mc2 (1)
in his Sep 1905 paper.
The copy of paper is available at

(ii) From (1) Einstein speculated
E = mc2 (2)
Energy emitted = mass annihilated.c2 (2)

(iii) The derivation of eq.(1) i.e. L =mc2
is true under very-2 special conditions.
Under general conditions, Einstein's derivation gives contradictory
results.
Hence E=mc2 has been generalized.

QUESTION

Right from undergraduate books ( even in advanced school text
books) to higher physics , E=mc2 is derived in different ways.
