The photons relevant to the Casimir effect form standing waves in the
cavity under consideration. Since, as you sure as fuck should know,
only waves of certain wavelengths are allowed inside a cavity. But
since there is an exclusion of certain wave modes, there is a pressure
from the vacuum.
That, in a nutshell, is the Casimir effect. It has fuck-all to do with
your rambling about mediators of force, or stuff moving in straight
