Some 65 people crowded into the Radio Pit in the Central Hall at the NAB
Show Tuesday to celebrate the launch of HD Radio in Mexico City, the first
of several planned HD Radio launches in Mexico.
Aptly named (Radio Pit). I was less than fifty feet away and I never
even noticed it.
Speeches among Mexican and American broadcasters were conducted in Spanish
and English.
Oh, that's what that was all about. That Mexico is behind the curve by
ten years isn't surprising, adopting something that is dying in the US.
Stations from three licensees are broadcasting FM HD Radio signals now and
more are expected to launch soon. Alpine, Insignia, Kenwood and Pioneer
brands are available for purchase from Best Buy, Coppel, Liverpool, Sears
and Woolworth retailers. Select new models from Ford and Toyota are
available at car dealerships.
There will be lots of used equipment available here in the US.
