A great day for HD Radio! ANother step forward with no signs of retreat!
Yeah, a lot of the sports radio and news radio stations are going to go
beyond just HD1 and HD2. There's a big demand for this sort of
programming, and it's something you can't get from an iPod or via
Pandora or from XM/Sirius.

I don't see music stations going beyond HD2, at least as long as analog
FM still exists. They won't want to decrease the audio quality by
splitting up the available bandwidth into too many streams. One of the
big selling points of HD Radio is the excellent audio quality, so I hope
the music stations keep this in mind when they think about HD3 and HD4.

Pretty incredible how all of a sudden, in the past six months, you see
such an uptake in HD Radio with so many car-makers announcing
availability, and retail stores increasing the number of SKUs. I was in
Fry's on Sunday, and they had 11 HD Radio products (two were out of
stock--they normally have 13). A year ago you'd be lucky to find 3 or 4
HD Radio SKUs and the big box electronics stores. Now even Wal-Mart is
selling several HD SKUs.

That's right, you with no crednetials know what it "illegal"....more than
all the lawyers at CBS, right?  LOL!
Broadcasting an out of market station on HD might increase the
coverage of an out-of-market station I guess, but for the time being,
no one will be listening. It's sort of a mood point. Since I can
receive any station from anywhere on the internet, and now that I
listen to that station in my car via my cell phone, rebroadcasting an
out of market station on HD stream doesn't seem to be that bad. With
the internet, all stations are now global. No more protection. Get
used to it.

Of course people are listening. But not in droves. Most of the formats on
HD stations will be niche formats. i.e..people who might want to listen to
WFAN out of NYC for instance.

While some geeks may listen to the telephone in the car, the majority of
people do not want to use their phone as a car radio...and most never will.
